Aside from those crazy moments I first held my kids when they were born, handing the first completed book manuscript I wrote to my dad was one of the proudest moments of my life. My dad has been a VORACIOUS reader for as long as I’ve known him. I’ve never seen the table by his bed without a stack of books on it, he is often in the middle of several books at one time and he would never, ever be caught short if someone asked for a book recommendation. I can safely say there’s a good chance you wouldn’t be here reading this right now if he hadn’t gathered my brothers and I up at night when we were kids to read us chapters of the Wizard of Oz before bed. 

But here we are, a number of years after I wrote that first book, on the edge of what I thought would possibly never happen – the imminent publication of my first book, which, to be fair, is not that manuscript I handed my dad. That book may or may not ever see the light of day. Instead it’s another book that was destined to be the real “first.” I am so very proud of it, and I’m very glad to say that every word of it came from my heart.
